Rover V8

Obviously there were several specifications and capacities available through the years in Morgans I shall only mention our more common modifications here but whatever you have we can do something to it!! (please ring).

Option I

4.6 litre
This engine is very responsive to ECU 'chipping' as it basically had a 3.9 1 ECU fuel chip and runs too lean. Ignition is also too retarded for a 'light' performance sportscar.
Therefore we:

  1. Fit uprated ECU fuel chip.
  2. Advance ignition to suit.
  3. Fit ITG performance airfilter

Cost £495 fitted.
Dramatic improvement from lazy 'all torque; no rev feel to responsive free revving flyer!!

3.9 litre
Less responsive than 4.6 L to above modifications but still worth it, especially with some exhaust modifications eg: catalyst replacement pipes (£150 fitted) or complete 4 into 1 manifold systems (POA)

4.0 litre
The 4.0 litre has a GEMS ECU which is far more sophisticated and 'modem' than the Lucas 14 CUX used on the earlier 3.9 and 4.6. Again it it has been set up to lug around 2 tonnes of Range Rover and can be improved considerably for its Morgan performance application. As ECU controls both the fuel map and ignition map and has sophisticated 'adaptive' functions it is not as straightforward to 'chip' as the 14 CUX - in fact 2 'chips' are replaced, so cost is £595 fitted and set up. For your money you'll get a quicker, more responsive freer revving engine more 'in tune' with a sportscar.

Further Options

The Rover V8 lends itself to a variety of conventional mechanical tuning from fast road to full race 400 BHP - most developed over the years and tried and tested. Earlier carbureted cars respond well to cam change, increased CR, cylinder head and manifold work and after market carburetors eg: Holley or Dellorto;s. POA.

3.9, 4.6 and 4.0 litres injection cars respond as well to similar engine mods and then use upgraded ECU chips developed to suit. A popular example is our so called 'Class B' spec - as it complies with the Morgan Race Series Class B road modified regs and makes a cracking road engine.
Includes: lightened balanced bottom end and flywheel, forged pistons to give 10.5 to 1 CR, 218 cam and high rev lifters, ported and polished cylinder heads, uprated clutch, ECU modifications to suit and dyno run. Gives 260 BHP and 260+ lbs/ft torque in 3.9/4.01. Pulls like a train and revs to 6500!!
4.6 produces 285 BHP and almost 300 lbs/ft torque!
Prices approx £4000 - £5,500 fitted depending on spec.
